Advanced High School Checking Clinic

This clinic is designed to teach your child advanced body checking techniques as they continue their high school hockey career.

Proper checking at this level is an essential skill that must be learned by all hockey players.

Players in this clinic will learn to use their body properly in all areas on the ice, learn to removing their opponent from the puck, and proper offensive and defensive body positioning are just a few topics we will cover.

Open to all JV and Varsity High School Hockey players

Must sign-up by Oct. 31.

Registration is first-come-first-served. Limited to only 40 players.

What you’ll learn

The clinic and it’s purpose is to teach the players proper advanced techniques on how to receive and give a check at the high school level. It is important for all hockey players, especially High School players, to learn to put themselves into the right position before the contact.

How we teach

Skaters will be introduced to body contact and checking via small area drills and games. The progression of drills and games are designed to maximize the student’s time on and off the ice.

Themes of the class

Safety, Mechanics, Protection, Awareness, Offensive and Defensive tactics, Advanced Body Positioning.

What’s included

Ice Time, Off-Ice/Classroom training, practice jersey & autographs from Colton Orr.

Open to all JV and Varsity High School Hockey players.

Expert NHL Level Instruction

Colton Orr

NHL – Forward

Colton played 11 seasons (496 Games) in the NHL with the Boston Bruins, New York Rangers and Toronto Maple Leafs. His physicaly style of play quickly made him a favorite of fans and teammates alike.

Since retiring from the NHL in 2016, Colton has made it his mission to ensure players all skill levels are properly taught to use their body in all hockey situations to protect yourself, your oppenent and the game.

Nick Petrecki

NHL – Defenseman

Nick, a physical defenseman, was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the 1st Round (#28 overall pick) of 2007 NHL draft. Born in New York State, he played professional hockey for 7 years in the NHL, AHL and ECHL. As a pro, his leadership and charitable efforts earned him AHL Man of the Year honors (2 times) and the Yanick Dupre Memorial award.

Nick played Division 1 college hockey for Boston College (2007 Nation Championship) and was also a member of Team USA U17 and U18 teams. Since retiring he has coached the New Canaan High School Varsity team and various levels at the NC Winter Club.
